Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal decompression is a non-surgical approach to create decompression of the intervertebral disc with a controlled distraction force utilizing the newest technology in traction therapy. Through a controlled traction force delivered slowly and smoothly, the patient, in many cases is unaware that the treatment is happening. By delivering a specific traction force to the spine segments are separated causing the retraction of the disc herniation and allowing for the natural healing process. Spinal decompression therapy can relieve pain associated with herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, facet syndrome and radicular pain. Before resorting to surgery, it makes sense to try this non surgical alternative that we believe now has a much higher success rate than previously available.

In addition to decompression, patients initially may be treated with manipulation, therapy and a prescibed regimen of rehabilitative exercise and stretches. The goal is not only to alleviate your pain but to reduce the likelihood of it returning.

The Conditions Treated Include

Bulging/Herniated/Ruptured Discs- can cause pain, numbness and weakness in the lower back, neck, upper and lower extremities. This condition occurs when the outer coating of the disc is torn or damaged, allowing the discs center (nucleus) to bulge or actually leak (herniate) out. This can then lead to pressure on a host of nerves running along the spine.

Sciatica and Radicular Pain- can cause a constant or shooting pain that runs from the neck into the shoulders or arms. In the lumbar spine the pain can run down into the leg or foot.

Spinal Stenosis: can cause persistant pain and/or numbness into the upper or lower extremities. This condition occurs when herniated discs or bone spurs form on the outer edges of the vertebra, narrowing the spinal canal and pressing on nerve roots.

Facet Syndrome- is irritation of one or more of the posterior joints of the spine. Facet joints occur in pairs at the back of each vertebrae allowing for movement of the spine. Complaints can consist of deep dull pain that if in the lower spine can radiate into the buttocks and thighs
